Discovering the world of adult content platforms? This glossary gathers every term you might come across on OnlyFans, MYM or Fansly. Each definition is explained simply.
C
Commission
The percentage the platform (OnlyFans, MYM, Fansly) keeps on every transaction. OnlyFans takes 20%, MYM between 15-25%, Fansly 15%. The rest goes to the creator.
Creator
The term used on every platform for people who publish content.
Custom
Personalized content created specifically for you by a creator. It can be a photo, video or voice message. Customs usually cost extra on top of the subscription.
D
Direct Messages (DMs)
Private messages exchanged with a creator. On OnlyFans, you can message her once you're subscribed. Many creators offer personalized replies.
F
Fansly
A competitor platform to OnlyFans, launched more recently. It offers creators better commissions (85% vs 80% on OnlyFans).
Free Account
A free account with limited access. Some creators offer free content to attract subscribers, then sell premium content pay-per-view.
L
Live / Livestream
Live broadcasts hosted by creators. Fans can interact in real time via chat. Some lives are free, others paid.
M
Message (PPV)
Short for "Pay-Per-View." A message (photo or video) sent by the creator that must be purchased separately, on top of the subscription. It's a major revenue source for creators.
MYM
"Meet Your Model" — a French adult content platform. It positions itself as more "upscale" than OnlyFans and offers creators better commission rates.
O
OnlyFans
The leading platform for adult content. Launched in 2016 in the United Kingdom, it has millions of creators and subscribers worldwide.
Ovulation / Ovule
Terms sometimes used on social media to promote content. Take with a grain of salt.
P
Pay-Per-View (PPV)
See "Message (PPV)." A system where each specific piece of content must be purchased separately.
S
SFW
Short for "Safe For Work" — content suitable for the workplace, with no nudity. Many creators share SFW content on Twitter or Instagram for promotion.
Shadowban
When an account is quietly restricted by a platform (Twitter, Instagram) without notice. Your posts stop showing up for new followers. Common when promoting adult content.
Store (App Store / Google Play)
OnlyFans isn't available on app stores. You can only access the platform through its website. Beware of FAKE apps that circulate online.
Subscriber
The term for someone who pays to access a creator's content on OnlyFans.
Subscription
The monthly or annual payment to access a creator's content. It's OnlyFans' core model. Prices generally range between €5 and €30/month.
T
Tip
A tip sent to a creator, usually via direct messages or during a live. It's a voluntary extra on top of the subscription.
V
Verification
The process by which OnlyFans confirms a creator's identity. She has to submit an ID and a selfie. Without verification, the account can't publish content.
Verified Profile
A badge OnlyFans grants to profiles that have verified their identity with an ID. It's an important trust signal.
W
Wall
A creator's feed on OnlyFans, where all her public posts appear, visible to subscribers.
Wallet
The virtual wallet on OnlyFans. You add funds to buy pay-per-view messages (PPV) or send tips. Creators can also withdraw their earnings from it.
